You should carry insurance information for every person on the trip, as well as any medication that may be needed on a daily basis, or any special medical information that a doctor may need during an emergency situation, such as allergies to specific medications, dangerous health conditions, etc. It is also a good idea to carry a fully stocked first aid kit in your vehicle at all times, so that if an accident happens, you will have some basic equipment to work with until help can arrive on the scene.

People with certain health conditions shouldn't spend long periods in the car, or are unable to fly. If your doctor doesn't approve of your traveling plans, it might be best to stay home.

You may also want to carry bottled water with you, as the water in some areas is unfit to drink. You should do your homework about your destination, so that you can be well prepared when you arrive.

It may be possible to purchase some extra coverage, just in case. Not all injuries may be covered under your policy, especially if the provider considers the accident to be caused by risky behavior, such as sky diving or bungee jumping.
