Largest U.S. Cheese Maker was in East Aurora (East Aurora Advertiser)

At East Aurora, Erie County, to-day, the firm of Richardson, Beebe & Co., made, it is claimed, the largest cheese ever pressed. It weighs 3,300 pounds. The milk used weighed 16 tons. The cheese is made for a Buffalo dealer. Three others, weighing from half a ton to a ton and a half are in press for Liverpool and London dealers. - The New York Times, Sept. 23, 1885

Wales to Ask for Outside Audit (East Aurora Advertiser)

The Town of Wales is preparing to go out to bid on a board proposal to conduct an audit of all town financial and business practices. Such a complete audit has not been undertaken in years, Supervisor Rickey A. Venditti said, and comes as a result of a routine town justice court independent audit required by Albany. It also comes on the heels of a theft and kickback scandal in neighboring Marilla.

Silence can be an indicator of many things, but this week at the Marilla Historical Society's program on Mary Jemison on Nov. 18, over 100 people were so drawn into the performance by Gretchen Murray Sepik that they seemed to be transported to the time in the late 1700s that found Mary walking through the woods, sharing her careful footsteps through the Genesee Valley.
