Customer Review: Not a bad piece of kit
I\'ve had this for about 6 months now and am using it on my Palm. It didn\'t work immediately - I had to copy the software onto my PC, reformat the card it came on, then copy it back; it was ok after that.
The software is nice, and it even knows where every house number is! The maps are not terribly up-to-date and I\'ve found a few mistakes here and there. I\'d say that from my experience there\'s a roughly 70% chance of finding a mistake somewhere along a journey (often just describing a crossroads as a roundabout or vice-versa, but sometimes more, such as not mentioning that a road is one-way).
The main time when the voice commands can confuse is when they tell you to do two things close together for instance, \"Turn right, then turn left.\" I\'d take this to mean turn right then take the first left afterwards, but it actually means \"Turn right then turn left when I say,\" which may be first right then second left. It would be nice if the voice said things like \"Take the second left\".
The other thing is that the GPS can take a while to find a signal. I\'ve been driving down the M4 for 30 minutes on a clear day before getting a signal! I\'ve also been out for walks on clear days and not got a signal at all. Still, it seems to know when I really need it and it comes through when essential. When it behaves well, it can get a signal within 30 seconds (or even 5 seconds sometimes).
One thing to watch is that the maps are GB - Northern Ireland is covered in high-level detail with main roads only (apart from Belfast which is in street-level detail).
This is my first sat nav system and I like it, despite the small shortcomings described above.
Customer Review: Impressed
I'm impressed with the software. I use it on all \"new\" journeys - at least once a week.
I bought this to use with my Palm pilot. It took me a day to get it working and I had to copy the SW onto another SD card (as recommended) AND I had to download the latest file for my palm onto the SD card as well. Once it was up and running it is easy to use. I use the 3D view and it is very easy to follow, notice of turns etc. are given 300 yards before - plenty of time to get in lane, signal etc. The display also gives you mph, distance to your destination and approximate journey time. Also shown is the distance to the next turn, the name of the road and the direction in which you will need to turn; this enables you concentrate fully on the road on the longer sections of the journey. I use the \"Journey Planner\" a lot: you type in the postcode and it calculates the route gives you the distance and an approximate journey time. I feel lost without it in the car now! I can even take it with me as a pedestrian or a passenger in other cars. The only disadvantages are: -the time it sometimes takes to log onto the satellites; very frustrating if you have no idea which direction to start the journey! -It can be distracting; yet another thing to look at rather than the road. However, it is less distracting than trying to sneak a look at a road map while driving. -it can \"Jump around\" on the map if you are in a heavily built-up area or city centre, but as you tend to be driving very slowly it shouldn't be a problem.

Customer Review: Encarta 2006
Encarta 2006 is great, but i would recommend you getting Encarta 2006 Reference Library PC/DVD as it is the same price and it includes loads more features.
But overall encarta 2006 is a good piece of software and is well worth the money
